The Science Of Arm Balancing

Build the ability to playfully defy gravity by exploring simple yet potent alignment techniques. This intermediate level workshop will work to forge an understanding of the key actions and parts of the body which lay the foundation for success in inversions. These sometimes daunting poses become much more manageable with an awareness of some uncomplicated structural systems in the body. We begin by connecting with simple mechanical understanding, then embody what we learn and dive into a fun-filled exploration of arm balances and inversions. Come with a sense of adventure and the ability to pretend you’re seven years old.

Alignment As Awakening

In this all levels alignment intensive asana workshop we shine a light on the dynamics of physical action in the body. Using the hatha and vinyasa yoga systems we will explore the relationship between the journey of aligning the body and the journey of awakening into experiential truth. With an intelligent intermingling of expansion and contraction the sun salutations, standing poses and backbends become infinitely interesting artistic expressions. Through an inspired sequence of asana the body becomes a container to awaken to subtlety and the frame of reference is inspired with newness. Come learn some simple alignment principles and see the magic of how they infuse asana with a sense of fluid sustainability.

The Yoga Sutras And Seated Meditation

Somewhere around 2,000 years ago the mythical sage Patanjali compiled a penetrating treatise on the art of yoga. His gift to the world has rippled through the evolution of the practice as we know it today. This workshop is designed to facilitate a grounded understanding of some of the key philosophical concepts of classical yoga. We will apply the teachings to contemporary existence and then employ them by sitting together. Simple but potent meditation techniques will be offered for exploration in a group setting. Whether you’ve never meditated before or you’re a seasoned practitioner this workshop strives to inspire a deeply seeded appreciation of the power of yoga. Please bring a notebook, and a sitting cushion or chair of choice.
